A recent loss to the Elephant Population of Amboseli?I've seen a couple of posts here stating the death of one of the bulls in the park. Has something happened to Ezra and if so what happened, when and why? Elephant2011

Ezra's Death
Tue, 2012-07-31 17:52 by jhm
Ezra's death was so unfair. Why do animals always have to bear the brunt of people's anger? The Maasai obviously still don't get it. Without the animals they will have no income from the park. It was other people that caused their anger -- not the elephants or any animal. I can't help but be angry with the Maasai. Such a loss of a beautiful animal.
Cause of death

Are you suggesting that the cause of death was a retaliation of some sort?
In case it was, then this concludes that the Maasai were competing with the elephants for the resources available in the Park.
In case it was another case, then this points towards the 'tradition' which the Maasai have in confronting and taking the life of a large animal in order to prove their bravery.
These two reasons are the main cause for spearing of elephants by Maasai.
Ezra

Yes, Ezra has passed on. It is unfair as he has been calling Amboseli home for 44 years and doesnt deserve to die just yet.
Cynthia posted on facebook a minnie tribute to her beloved Ezra saying:
"Our team found Ezra this morning, dead from multiple spear wounds. He was 46 years and I had known him since he was seven years old and still a member of the EA family. He became independent in 1982 and has been an important breeding bull for the last 15 years. Ezra was always a calm and gentle male who didn't even become aggressive when he was in musth. The community here in Amboseli have true grievances but I don't think Ezra deserved to die."
Its a terribly sad loss.
