Crisis in Amboseli![]() The Amboseli Trust for Elephants is sorry to have to report a serious crisis in the Amboseli ecosystem. A long-standing controversy over the status of the Park has once more escalated into direct conflict. The moran (warriors) have been ordered by their leaders to kill wildlife outside the Park boundary, on community lands. Our Deputy Director for Community Affairs, Soila Sayialel, has been involved in meeting with all stakeholders and we are carefully monitoring the situation, but there are many rumors in circulation. We do not know how many animals have been speared, and we cannot confirm any fatalities at this point. At any given time most of the elephant population is on community lands, and even animals using the Park during the day often sleep on community lands overnight, so it will take time for us to be able to census the population and confirm any missing individuals. If we discover injured animals we will report to and work with KWS veterinary staff to treat them. We encourage our friends not to engage in hasty or inflammatory commentary, as this is not helpful in restoring calm constructive negotiation, which is how this situation will be resolved.

Such terrible news, it was devastating to hear of poor Ezra, hopefully the situation can be calmed before anymore suffering occurs.
