Rain at last![]() I just got word from Amboseli that the research camp received 30mm (over an inch) of rain last night. This is the first good rain that has fallen in the center of Amboseli since last April. More rains continue to fall outside the Park and there is already fresh, new grass for the wildlife in those areas. I think we can now say the drought is over.

This is wonderful, what a great pic...elephants walking in water, I'm so relieved. I am coming for a visit after I finish my masters degree in 18 months! I think it is extremely important to have things to look forward to but this will be more than a mere vacation or a 'reward'...it will be an experience of a lifetime. Can anyone tell me anything about the Ol Tukai Lodge in Amboseli and the best time to come? Thanks so much everyone for keeping us all updated!

The most welcomed and wanted news many of us have waited for, hopefully a good sign for the new year and indeed the new decade. I am looking forward to the upcoming update about Echo's family, hopefully the new rains will bring them togetherness, stability and eventually some new found Elephant happiness (their trade mark) !.. Wishing you all the best for 2010..
Love that Rain

Thankyou Cynthia,
This is great news, may it continue to rain and the grass grow again. I am
planning to return in March and now hope to see the park a happier place for all. Alison.
Thank Heaven

I will be posting an update on Echo's family as soon as we've seen the whole family. When I was in Amboseli at Christmas I saw part of the family--13 members including Echo's daughters Enid, Eliot, Ebony and Esprit. We know that five of the calves have died but no other adults after Echo.
I'm trying to find out what the status of DVD production is. Since the 13-part series was not shown in the US I doubt it will be available there although it may become available in other countries. I would guess that Animal Planet would issue a DVD of the two-hour special in the US. As soon as I find out I will let you know.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks Cynthia, I live in Canada and although we get Animal Planet I have yet to see any listings for the 13 part series so I will be looking for the DVD to be released. Another wonderful addition to my growing library on elehpants that I watch again and again.

Thanks for the GREAT news, Cynthia. It's still not v much, but it's something for the animals (and people) to get going with. Let's hope for lots more in the weeks to come.
