We at the Amboseli Trust want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. As Soila just reported we've had a little rain in Amboseli National Park and more outside so the situation is no longer dire. We are all hoping for more rain so that the habitat and the elephants can fully recover.

The year ahead is going to be a crucial one for elephants. Poaching for ivory has become a serious problem and we will have to direct much of our attention to fighting poaching on the ground and to trying to stop the demand. Some of us will be going to the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) meeting in Doha in March. There we will be lobbying and supporting Kenya's proposal for a 20 year moratorium on ivory trade.

You can help us by raising awareness and supporting our efforts.
