Adam with his Ingenious Ways of Survival

Adam [the AA family unit boy] was born in 1968, son to Alyce, who was born in 1950 and died in 1979, and he had a brother born in 1979 but died same year – which might have been due to his mother's death. Adam and his sister Amelia – born in 1973 – are the only survivors in their nuclear family. Amelia is doing quite well with a family of 7 (There's Anghared – first born female, Abel – second born male, Ann – third born female, and Ava – fifth born female. Unfortunately her fourth female named Aquarius died, but they were later blessed with 2 grandsons from Anghared and 1 granddaughter from Ann).

Adam was first recorded alone on February 13, 1984 when he was 16 years old. Usually young males go into independent when they reach the age of 14 or 15 yrs. Males begin exhibiting specific sexual active periods on their 25 years of age. Adam's first musth period was recorded in the year 2000 when he was 32 yrs old. Sexual “activity” and “inactivity” refer to males who exhibit a clear, consistent and alternating pattern of association with female groups for several months and then a longer period in the company of other males or alone respectively. Now Adam spends most of his time alone and his musth period is unpredictable because our record shows that he sometimes skips his musth period or when in one, comes off after a short while– an indication suggesting that Adam is more onto other issues.

Adam is known by all staff from Amboseli Ol-Tukai Lodge, Mada Hotel, Tortilis camp and the community campsite where he's frequent at nights. All of these facilities have their perimeter surrounded by an electrifying fence, but Adam always has an ingenious way to get past them without being electrocuted. He is always calm and not ready to kill; his desire is to have something to eat and does not provide any sort of danger to humans.

At certain occasions he is chased by rangers using thunder flashes but he has learned to live with it, which makes him a very smart boy. We get report from night guards that sometimes he will freeze and hide in bushes when people are searching for him, forgetting that his tusks are visible; I will add a sense of humor to his character.

AERP staff chases him by car whenever we find him in lodges or camps, and now he's accustomed to humming sound of car engine. Today in the morning he was caught unaware in a bush near elephant research house, and instantly when I started off the car engine, he took off and headed majestically towards the entrance gate.
