Photos of the New EB Calf

Thu, 2008-02-28 13:40 — cmoss
I managed to get some photos of Elettra's calf yesterday when she was three days old. Active and strong, she had some trouble figuring out who her mother was among the 33 other members of the family, but she seems to know what she's doing now. Elettra, at only 12 years old, wasn't sure what she was doing herself but she seems to be getting more and more competent each day. The calf is suckling well. The main allomother is Elaine, Edwina's daughter, and she is seen in one of the photos comforting the calf.

The Latest Addition to the EBs
Thank you, Cynthia for uploading the beatiful photographs and for your comments; it's good to hear that the calf is strong. She looks so small - are first calves from young mothers generally smaller at birth than subsequent siblings?
New EB calf
Thanks, Cynthia. She is so precious.
Elettra's Calf
What a beautiful calf! It always amazes me how tiny they really are as newborns. May she grow up to be strong and healthy surrounded by her big, caring family.
